More winners!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

So the Chocolate Lily Awards were announced the other day. Tis the season for book awards, apparently. Or is that all the time?

Anyhoo, the Chocolate Lily Awards (doesn’t the name conjure up the most delightful image?) are presented to the best in BC children’s fiction, and the judges are none other than young BC readers. This year, the winning novel was Honey Cake, written by Joan Stuchner and illustrated by Cynthia Nugent. And Chris Tougas, author and illustrator of Mechanimals, won for best picture book.

And may I also add that my good friend Kari Winters got the silver medal for her picture book, Jeffrey and Sloth. Just because it’s so delightful to have famous friends.

Vancouver is sweltering in glorious near-thirty-degree heat these days, and I’ve been taking my writing to the beach, which isn’t so productive, but is truly delicious. Huzzah for summer!
